Army Paratrooper in Afghanistan Dies From Wounds

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12, 2005 – An 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper died as a result of wounds he received during an improvised explosive device attack near Ghazni, Afghanistan, Aug. 9.
The deceased, Spc. Christopher M. Katzenberger, 25, of St. Louis, was an Army medic assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
"Chris was a great kid, loved children, and had dreams of being a Ranger medic and becoming a physician assistant," said Capt. Jody Shouse, his company commander.
During his tour in Afghanistan Katzenberger was credited with saving "a woman's life in Kabul," the captain noted.
Shouse said the deceased paratrooper had "died doing what he wanted to do, fight for his country and help people. Please keep Chris's family in your thoughts and prayers."
Katzenberger and another paratrooper were first reported wounded in the Aug. 9 attack. Both were evacuated to Bagram Airfield for treatment. Katzenberger died of his wounds shortly after arrival.
